There’s something magical about fireworks—vivid bursts of light illuminating the night sky, reflecting off the still waters of a lake, and creating a symphony of color. This year, I had the unique opportunity to capture that magic from a new perspective, using my drone to photograph the fireworks over the lake in Marlborough.
The lake was the perfect setting for this dazzling show. As the sun set and the sky darkened, the reflections of the fireworks on the water added a second dimension to the display. From above, the drone captured this symmetry, making the bursts of light seem even more dramatic as they danced between sky and lake.
Photographing fireworks is always a bit of a challenge, and doing it from a drone added a new layer of complexity. Timing the shots to coincide with the bursts, adjusting the drone’s position for the best angles, and managing the low light conditions were all part of the process. But the rewards were absolutely worth it—seeing the fireworks from this perspective gave me a whole new appreciation for the art and spectacle of the show.
Photographing fireworks from above has been one of my most exciting and challenging projects this year. The aerial perspective opened up a whole new world of possibilities. Check out the gallery below for some of my favorite shots from the night!
